28th Annual Victorian Classic

Plans are set for the 28th Annual running of the Victorian Classic here on Mar. 13. The event is once again sponsored by the Eureka Springs Rotary Club to benefit ECHO, the Eureka Springs Free Health Clinic, and includes three events: a 10K race, a 2 mile run, and a 2 mile walk.

The 10K course is among the most scenic of any run in the region, with hillside views of hardwood forests and the historic homes and businesses located along the historic downtown loop. The course includes many challenging hills as well as sprinting opportunities on the flats and ridges. The start and finish are both located at the Inn of the Ozarks on U.S. 62. The hotel is offering race participants special rates, starting at $59, for Friday night.

A wine and cheese social will be held in conjunction with the pre-registration packet pick-up on Mar. 12 from 4-6 p.m. at the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, and prior to Saturday’s race from 7-9 a.m. The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is hosting their annual Souper Soups Luncheon following the race and tickets for this event will be available at race registration.

The gun will go off for all events at 9 a.m. sharp, followed by the Awards Ceremony at approximately 10:30 a.m. Awards for first through third place are being offered in the Overall male/female, Masters male/female, and in five-year age brackets up to age 75 male/female. In addition, awards will be given to the top 10 male and females overall, and “finisher” medals will be given to all finishers 12 and under in the 2 Mile Run and 2 Mile Walk. Drawings for a variety of door prizes will also be held during the Awards Ceremony.

Collectible art t-shirts are guaranteed to the first 300 entrants. Again this year the artwork for these unique shirts, as well as for the Victorian Classic mugs given to winners, was created by local artist Blakely Wilson.

The entry fee is $20 for pre-registered runners/walkers if received by Mar. 12 and $25 for race day entries. To register, or for more information on the Victorian Classic, call Nicole Hoppel at 417-379-7931, email her at victorianclassic@gmail.com, or go online at www.eurekarotary.org.
